Waldorf Craft : Tissue Paper and Watercolour Lanterns

Today we made some lovely watercolour lanterns. We used glass jars, white tissue paper, a mix of glue and water, watercolour and some salt.

We covered the jars with a mix of glue and water and attached the white tissue paper.
We then painted the tissue paper with watercolour and sprinkled salt onto them for an interesting effect.

When they had dried we brushed off the salt and added pipecleaners and wire so that we can hang them over our Nature Table!

It’s been so nice easing back into crafting after such a stressful time, it feels like coming home.

Wishing you a beautiful day full of love and warmth!

I have been wanting to do some lanterns with mason jars…but I am afraid to put a real candle in it. Can the jars handle the heat of the candle inside without cracking or busting into a million little pieces of glass? I love your idea! I want to try :)

    • We have never had a problem with the glass cracking, to be honest the thought had never even crossed my mind. I remove the labels by pouring boiling water over the jars, so I imagine they are ok with heat! We sometimes use LED tealights, especially when we put the lanterns into the children’s room, so that might be a good alternative to real candles!

  2. Lovely lanterns! I really need to do this as well with the kids. I think that little tealight candles (in the aluminum cup) work well in them.
