For us it has to be the lighting of the advent candle on the first of December. We light it each night during supper and the girls love to watch its gradual burn down to the 24th. My mother-in-law, who is Danish, always brings a beautiful tall advent candle with golden numerals back from Copenhagen for us – magical!

I love how my children’s excitement builds up, initially just hopeful with much studying of the Argos catalogue but slowly increasing as we start our regular winter traditions first with making cards building up to the house fully decorated for the holidays.
Here in the Southern Hemisphere our days get longer and this heralds the start of the better weather (hopefully). I love participating in Christmas swaps and making hand made gifts for the festive season.

I love the lovely christmas craft fayres.
I have a soon to be four year old little girl. I love that even though she has a birthday coming in December that she is still overjoyed for the December holiday season. I love hearing the excitement in her voice! Her sense of wonder about the holiday season makes it even more magical for us.
