We have been having a lot of fun with air drying clay, and this morning while crafting in the semi-darkness of yet another rainy early winter morning I thought to myself that it really was a good day to craft something that would bring us a little bit of light and warmth.
It had been a difficult few days and this craft was just what we needed. I think these would make great little homemade presents from the little ones to friends and grandparents!
Air Drying Clay Votives
We used a chunk of air drying clay, cookie cutters, empty glass jars and modelling tools.
We started by rolling out the clay really thinly. We then rolled our glass jar across it to mark the outer edges of where out votive would be.
After that you can use cookie cutters to very gently add a shape to the clay, press firmly but not hard enough to cut through the clay.
We also carved a little snowflake into one votive with the modelling tool.
The cookie cutter shapes turned out a little bit better, with the light gently shining through the imprint.
When our clay had dried we painted one of the jars with acrylic paint, another with glitter glue and left one completely white.
They look great with a tealight inside and I can’t wait to see what other designs the little ones will come up with!
I hope you have fun making these little candle holders!
Have a lovely day!
