Meditation for Children : Our Peaceful Space

While we try and keep our whole home a relaxing, peaceful place, with three little ones it can be tricky.
We have a special Peaceful Space in our home, a corner to be calm, quiet and mindful.

While it is relatively simple, it feels like such a magical place to spend time.
Whenever a little one feels like they might like to take a break from what they are doing they can come and sit on the Zafu meditation cushion in our Peaceful Space.
Here they can meditate, light an incense stick (with Mama’s help!) or read one of the many inspirational books we keep in the Peaceful Corner.

On the shelves next to the Zafu we keep a set of Baoding Balls , a felt flower stacking toy, a small statue of Buddha which is an indoor fountain, a Mind Jar and a rain stick, as well as books about meditation, a small book of prayers, a “Spirit Journey” guide, a wooden Mandala Maker toy and a small doll to hold.

On the wall are some printed Mandalas and a canvas that says “You are Loved”.
I am hoping to get some child-sized Tibetan Prayer Beads as well as a small Holding Cross to keep in a small bowl, and maybe even make a Finger Labyrinth from clay.
I really love our little Peaceful Space and how it changes so easily to be exactly what we need it to be: A place to read or meditate, a place to calm your thoughts or just a place to sit when you need a break.
Do you have a Peaceful Corner in your home? Feel free to link to it in the comments!
Have a beautiful day!

Such an inspiration… I’ve been trying to gather little things for a Peaceful Corner of our own, but yours is absolutely lovely and inviting. Thanks for sharing!

I am in the midst of planning a peaceful corner in our home and yours gives me lots of inspiration. I look forward to your book list tomorrow.

I am not feeling very peaceful right now, and came to your blog because I find it a place of peace and inspiration. This idea made me feel hopeful and inspired! My children are very young (3 months and 2 years), but I will add this to our home very soon. My 2 year old will love it, and I will have to let him help me with ideas for our peaceful corner.

  5. Hi, I’m wondering which room of your house the Peaceful Corner is in? I really think we need one of these for myself, my husband and our son. But I’m not sure where would be private enough.

Also, one suggestion would be to include a Tibetan bell – its resonance can definitely change the air.

Thank you for your wonderful writing! Please keep going — you’re helping a lot of people. Peace, shannon @ jozikaroo
