Dear Greatgrandma

In Memory of Greatgrandma Nellie
1919 – 2012

We explained to the children that you are in heaven now.
They think about what you might be doing right now, maybe you are cooking lunch for your husband, probably one of those New Zealand lambs you love so much,
or maybe you are feeding the ducks.
Grown-ups are so bad at grieving, and these little ones teach us so much.

We are so grateful that all our children got to meet you.
Thank you for hugging them when they needed it, thank you for letting them fall asleep on you even if it meant you would not be able to move for the next hour or so.
Thank you for so warmly welcoming everybody into your family.

There are so many things that we will never forget about you.
You were so full of love for everyone.

I wish I had more words, or even just the right words, to explain just how much you mean to all of us.
I really don’t know what to say, but one thing I do know is that we will teach the Greatgrandma-Game to every niece, nephew, grandchild and great-grandchild we will ever have.

We love you so much,
you will be missed.

I’m sorry for your loss. This is a wonderful tribute to Great-Grandma! My Grandmother was born in 1919 and I have the privilege of helping her out. Though some days are hard, I’m so thankful that my boys have a relationship with my Grandparents. It’s an unmatched blessing :)
