This must be the millionth lantern tutorial I am sharing with you, but I simply can’t help it,
I love candles!
This is really an Autumn craft, but because Autumn is my favourite season and it’s already rainy outside I thought I might as well start early!
I am sharing two different versions of the Leaf Surprise Lantern, one for you to make, and one for your little one to make, isn’t that fun?
Leaf Surprise Lantern
You will need:
A glass jar
One sheet of white wool felt and scraps in at least one contrasting colour. (I will be using yellow, orange and red.)
Scissors
Needle
Embroidery Floss
Glue
How to:
Trace leaves onto your contrasting felt and cut out the shapes.
Sew them onto the white felt. Don’t worry about what the side with the leaves looks like, in this case the back will be the front.
This will be the front:
This will be the back:
Wrap your white felt around your glass jar and cut it to size.
Glue or sew the ends together.
Now just add tealight, and that’s it, your Leaf Surprise Lantern is done!
For the child friendly version cut your white felt to the right size, cut out colourful leaf shapes and just let your little one glue the shapes to the felt.
Then just wrap it around the jar, secure it with some white craft glue, and you are done!
I love how simple these lanterns are at first glance.
We will be making some more surprise lanterns for our dining table, I think a few of these grouped together would be so beautiful.
Wishing you a lovely day!

How delicious! We LOVE candles, too. In fact, this morning my boy asked, “when is it candle season again?”
Our days are still long, and we get sun at least part of most days, so I’ll hold off a bit. But, by September 1, I will embrace the new season with much joy!
