Something you are going to find in every Waldorf school classroom is the Nature Table.
It’s a little corner or shelf dedicated to show the change in seasons and reflect what is happening outside.
A Nature Table does not have to be fancy, it can be as simple or decorated as you like.
Many years ago when we first started a Nature Table it was nothing more than a collection of seashells and sticks,
and at the time it was all we wanted it to be.
These days there are a few essentials you will always find on our Nature Table:
A colourful silk cloth, the colour depending on the season,
Spring: Green
Summer: Blue + Pink
Autumn: Orange
Winter: White + Blue
A wooden sign declaring the season,
A glass jar to hold flowers we find on our nature walks,
The matching “Seasons” book by Gerda Muller,
and a felted “Mother Earth” doll.
We add seasonal bits to the table as we find them,
In Spring there will usually be the first fresh flowers from our garden, an Easter tree and a little Maypole,
in the Summer you will often find seashells, pebbles and jars full of sand,
Autumn (my favourite) holds leaves, candles, pinecones, apples and wooden toys of St Michael and the Dragon.
Winter is not just plain white and boring, it holds lanterns for Martinmas, a wooden St.Martin and his sword,
apples with candles inside and, closer to Christmas, it is home to our Advent Spiral.
I will be sharing our Nature Table with you as the seasons change ,
& if you have a table, corner or shelf you’d like to share please do so in the comments below.
Wishing you a wonderful day.
