Today at our german playgroup, Nathan’s son Merlin showed off his newest
skill: Standing up without holding on.
That’s very good, one mum said. How old is he?
I don’t know. What’s the date today?
I don’t have a clue, I said.
No, I don’t, said another mother.
It is Wednesday, I know that! helped out yet another.
We must have looked impressed, because she quickly added
I just know that because playgroup is on Wednesdays!
We never did find out what date it was.
This conversation made me so very happy.
This is what being a parent is like,
we forget what date it is, because we are so busy with the details,
with how our babies smell just after a bath,
how they eat all the carrots first, & then divide the peas into
two different parts to make a valley for the gravy,
how they count to twenty but always forget thriteen…
The date? I don’t need to know the date,
I’ve got my babies.
I hope your day is full of happiness and love!
♥

For such a lunatic person as myself, your story doesn’t sound as a strange one. More than that, when people ask me how old I am, I need to do some math (I do always remember the year I was born in – thanks God:), and then I do sound a little bit surprised as if I just found out that I am much older than I thought I was..:)
I’m *so* feeling you!
That’s so true.
And good.
And sweet
I recognize Mondays and Fridays, the rest is a happy blur……
(I just stumbled upon you…)
But I can relate to this post… I haven’t known the date for about 5 and half years!!! One day I called my grandparents (in a different state) and I’m like “hi its me… I’m not sure what day it is… but its naptime and I was just calling, etc etc”…. well my grandfather asked my grandmother what was wrong… did she think I was on drugs (I think he was kidding… hopefully)… but she was like…”Gene… she is a mom… her life is like one LOOONNGGG week…” anyhoo… I was glad to see your post.
I came over from the Crafty Crow and hope to make the nesting helper for our birds. take care
